Cagayan Museum (1973), Tuguegarao City

During our short vacation to Cagayan last February 4-6, 2020 we had the chance to visit the Cagayan Museum located along Aguinaldo Street in Tuguegarao City in front of the Rizal Park. It was previously located at the provincial capitol complex (5 kilometers from the town proper).

The Cagayan Provincial Museum and Historical Research Center was conceived by the Provincial Board in 1971 and became operational on its inauguration on August 15, 1973 during the traditional Aggao na Cagayan. It is a general museum that houses an extensive collection of artifacts, antiques, ethnography, trade wares, heirloom pieces and liturgical works of the province and fossils of animals that once roamed the valley. The museum houses extensive data on the discovery of Callao Man by the National Museum of the Philippines. Source

When you’re in Tuguegarao, it’s definitely a must-have to visit the Cagayan Museum. Here are some of the pictures I took that showcase the rich collection of artifacts of the museum:

Calvary Hills, Iguig, Cagayan

From Tuguegarao, Cagayan we travelled north via van to the town of Iguig. Our relative is kind enough to drove us there. Calvary Hills is a very nice place specially for Catholics who wanted to see the Stations of the Cross as depicted using life-size statues.

The huge signage of Calvary Hills in the town of Iguig, north of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan

The whole place is huge and gives you a vantage point to the mighty Cagayan River. The place is really a hill and it takes time before you visit all the stations of the cross.

Calvary Hills is located behind the St James the Apostle Parish Church in Iguig. There’s a small gate at the left side of the church. I can’t remember if we paid an entrance fee. It was cloudy and raining when we visited last February 5, 2020 thus the pictures posted here all have dark, cloudy sky.

Too bad the church is closed during our visit so I don’t have a shot of the interior of the church.
